7 Day Chimpanzee Tracking
Uganda is one of the best places in the world to observe wild chimpanzees in their natural environment. This 7-day safari focuses on chimpanzee trekking in Kibale Forest, Kyambura Gorge, and Budongo Forest, while also allowing you to explore Uganda’s rich biodiversity through exciting game drives and boat safaris in some of the most beautiful national parks in the country. From dense forests to savannah and wetlands, this safari is designed for nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts.
Day 1: Arrival in Entebbe & Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park
Morning:
- Arrive at Entebbe International Airport, where your guide will meet you.
- Begin your scenic drive to Kibale Forest National Park (approximately 5-6 hours).
- Enjoy the lush landscapes, including tea plantations and crater lakes on the way.
Afternoon:
- Stop for lunch in Fort Portal.
- Continue the journey to Kibale Forest and check in at your lodge (Primate Lodge, Turaco Treetops, or Chimpanzee Forest Lodge).
Evening:
- Relax and enjoy dinner at the lodge.
- Optional: Take a guided nature walk in Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary to spot birds and primates.
- Overnight at the lodge.
Day 2: Chimpanzee Tracking in Kibale Forest & Bigodi Community Walk
Morning:
- Breakfast at the lodge.
- Head to Kanyanchu Visitor Center for a briefing on chimpanzee trekking.
- Begin chimpanzee tracking in Kibale Forest, home to over 1,000 chimpanzees. Spend 1 hour observing the chimpanzees in their natural habitat, and enjoy the opportunity to see other primates such as red-tailed monkeys and black-and-white colobus monkeys.
Afternoon:
- Return to the lodge for lunch.
- Visit Bigodi Community and take part in a cultural tour, learning about the traditions and lifestyles of the local people.
Evening:
- Dinner and relaxation at the lodge.
- Optional: Take an evening forest walk or relax by the lodge.
- Overnight at the lodge.
Day 3: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park & Kyambura Gorge Chimpanzee Trekking
Morning:
- Breakfast at the lodge.
- Drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park (approximately 3 hours).
- Check in at your lodge (Mweya Safari Lodge, Elephant Plains Lodge, or Enganzi Lodge).
Afternoon:
- Enjoy lunch at the lodge.
- In the afternoon, embark on chimpanzee trekking in Kyambura Gorge, an area known for its unique forest ecosystem and beautiful views. Track the chimpanzees and learn about their behaviors and natural surroundings.
Evening:
- Return to the lodge for dinner and relaxation.
- Optional: Take a sunset walk or relax at the lodge.
- Overnight at the lodge.
Day 4: Game Drive & Boat Safari on the Kazinga Channel
Morning:
- Early morning game drive in Queen Elizabeth National Park, one of Uganda’s most biodiverse parks. Look out for lions, elephants, buffaloes, and Uganda kobs.
Afternoon:
- Lunch at the lodge.
- After lunch, enjoy a boat safari on the Kazinga Channel, famous for its large populations of hippos, crocodiles, and diverse bird species, including pelicans and kingfishers.
Evening:
- Return to the lodge for dinner and relaxation.
- Optional: Take an evening game drive to spot nocturnal wildlife such as leopards and hyenas.
- Overnight at the lodge.
Day 5: Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park & Evening Game Drive
Morning:
- Breakfast at the lodge.
- Drive to Murchison Falls National Park (approximately 6-7 hours).
- Check in at your lodge (Paraa Safari Lodge, Nile Safari Lodge, or Pakuba Safari Lodge).
Afternoon:
- Relax and enjoy lunch at the lodge.
- After lunch, go on a game drive in the southern sector of Murchison Falls National Park. Spot elephants, giraffes, lions, and other wildlife.
Evening:
- Dinner at the lodge.
- Optional: Night game drive to observe nocturnal wildlife, such as genets, bush babies, and hyenas.
- Overnight at the lodge.
Day 6: Chimpanzee Tracking in Budongo Forest & Murchison Falls Exploration
Morning:
- Early breakfast at the lodge.
- Head to Budongo Forest, which is home to another significant chimpanzee population.
- Embark on chimpanzee tracking in the forest, where you’ll spend 1 hour observing the chimpanzees and other wildlife.
Afternoon:
- Lunch at the lodge.
- Visit the Top of Murchison Falls, where you’ll witness the Nile River forcing its way through a narrow gorge, creating a spectacular waterfall.
Evening:
- Dinner at the lodge.
- Optional: Sunset boat cruise along the Nile River to view wildlife such as hippos and crocodiles.
- Overnight at the lodge.
Day 7: Morning Game Drive & Transfer Back to Entebbe
Morning:
- Breakfast at the lodge.
- Enjoy a morning game drive to capture final glimpses of the wildlife in Murchison Falls, including lions, elephants, and antelope species.
Afternoon:
- Lunch on the way to Entebbe.
- Continue the drive to Entebbe, arriving in the afternoon.
Evening:
- Arrive in Entebbe in time for your departure flight.

Dos

Don'ts:
- Don’t get out of the vehicle during game drives unless instructed by your guide. Wild animals can be dangerous.
- Don’t approach or provoke the animals – it is best to observe from a safe distance.
- Don’t wear bright or flashy clothes – they might attract unwanted attention from animals.
- Don’t feed the animals – feeding wildlife can alter their behavior and cause harm to both the animals and visitors.
- Don’t forget to tip – tipping is a common practice for guides, drivers, and lodge staff (usually 5-10 USD per day for a guide, less for porters or housekeepers).
- Don’t leave food or trash around – always dispose of trash in the designated bins and keep the environment clean.
- Don’t engage in risky behavior – such as getting too close to the edge of the falls or standing too near wild animals.
